basement studio

It’s this little website. And it’s an EP. A video EP. (A video mixtape?)

Because I have new songs. And I want you to hear them. But I don’t have the energy to make another CD. (It would be my seventh. Boring!) So instead, I’m in my basement. With a sampling of the new songs. And guitars. And a laptop. And a video camera. (Okay, two video cameras.) And my band. (Ahem.) In some ways, this is more of a challenge. But in other ways, this is easier. More fun.

So about these “live” performances: I cleaned up one bad bass note in “Over” and fixed a backup vocal in “Down” to replace inadvertently doubled lines with a harmony. (Stupid me. I was rushing!) Other than those punch-ins, what you’re hearing in these videos is exactly what I played and sang in the room when I pressed record. Warts and all.

The Songs

”This is the last time I will do this for you.” I did this one first. Of course. This is the mellow one. In spite of the presence of one John Henry Bonham. Well, mellow until the guitar solo. Slow burn.

“No more chocolate Romeo. No more going gorillas.” This is the Spike Lee/John Hughes mashup. Jungle Fever meets Pretty in Pink. Note the dramatic tension between Tele Bryan and P-Bass Bryan.

bass in your face
“N-word is the punchline but this ain’t no joke.” I’m slumming on this one. Only four strings and one me.

six piece band
“Digging don’t make you down.” To paraphrase Haley Joel Osment: I see band members. ALL THE TIME.

Oh… I’ve worked up the nerve to post audio of some of the demos I worked on over the last year. Ish is rough. But whatever.

And there’s a bunch of old videos in the video vault.

And even the proverbial hidden track.
